Biography
Soraya Heuss-Aßbichler is a professor of Mineralogy at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Munich (LMU). For more than 20 years she has been involved in various research projects in the field of applied geosciences. Starting from the environmental impact of waste, her activity in now focused on waste as a resource, challenges of the circular economy, and sustainability in a transdisciplinary approach. As leader of the working group "Classification of Anthropogenic Resources" under MINEA, a scientific exchange network on “Mining the European Anthroposphere”, she has started to investigate the prerequisites for classifying waste streams as a resource comparable to mineral resources. She is currently leading a working group under the EU Horizon project FutuRaM with the aim of creating a tool for assessing the availability of secondary raw materials in line with the UNFC, which can be used by various stakeholders for decision-making purposes.
